BREATHWORK
YOUR BREATH IS THE KEY TO SELF-HEALING

What is Breathwork?
Breathwork is simply shifting our natural breath from an involuntary state to a voluntary state in order to release trapped energy from the body. It is a powerful healing modality that is a bottom-up process. Bottom-up healing means that we observe the body first, which, in turn, shifts and heals the mind. Talk therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindset work are all considered top-down processes, which work to change or reframe our thoughts without going deep into the body. Using both a bottom-up process along with a top-down process can be extremely supportive to our healing journey.

Breathwork may be used for physical, emotional, or spiritual reasons or all of the above. You (the breather) get to bring your own intention to your breathwork session and together we will help you to connect to your body through your breath to achieve that intention.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Breathwork Safe?
Yes. Breathwork is completely natural and safe. It is your breath and you are always in control. However, 60-minute Meditative Breathwork sessions (breath patterns lasting longer than 8 minutes) are not recommended for pregnant women. The practice may create intense emotionality, which can create emotional disruption for the baby. Shorter 30-minute Integrative Breathwork sessions are perfectly safe for pregnant women. Breathwork is highly recommended prenatal to allow for the release of past trauma and to create a healthy energetic environment for the baby, as well as postnatal. Breathwork is safe to use when breastfeeding.

Breathwork is safe for children, however, being in an altered state of consciousness with intense emotionality might be jarring on their system. For children, it is best to only do 30-minute Integrative Breathwork sessions which are used for relaxation and mental clarity and do not alter the conscious state.

Are There Any Side-Effects?
Breathwork is a completely natural and safe practice, however, the body will respond in physical ways that may seem odd. Tetany is the most common physical side effect. Tetany is where your hands will curl inwards toward your heart (like lobster claws). This usually passes within 15 minutes of completing the breath pattern. Your ears may ring for about 20 minutes after Breathwork. During the session, your body may want to shake, move around, or you'll feel the need to laugh or scream. This is all part of releasing blocked energy from the body.

How Often Can I Do Breathwork?
Breathwork is completely safe to do every day or even twice a day, but it is best to give time between sessions to process any emotions that may have surfaced during the session I recommend beginners starting with at least one 30-minute Integrative session before increasing to once a week 60-minute Meditative sessions. Sometimes the mind needs a extra time to catch up to what the body is experiencing. However, there are no downsides for increasing the duration of your sessions or the number of sessions completed on a weekly basis.
